7/4/2023 0 Comments Star wars lando charles souleIt’s not a terribly interesting story and not even remotely necessary. And I felt very, very eeeehhhh… about Lando. Except they don’t realise it’s owned by the Emperor who sends a dangerous bounty hunter after him (no, not that one, a knockoff version of him). Lando owes money to a gangster who makes him accept a job with a big score: steal an expensive space yacht. Like the other Star Wars titles to come out this year, Lando is set between A New Hope and The Empire Strikes Back. He’s not a great character either but it could’ve been worse - can you imagine giving Chewbacca his own series? Wait, that’s next week? Wow, Marvel are really milking this Star Wars licence for everything it’s worth! So it’s up to writer Charles Soule and artist Alex Maleev to somehow come up with a story for this minor supporting character in this 5-issue limited series. Looking forward to the inevitable Boba Fett solo series? Or even the Han Solo solo series? Well, Marvel know what you want because heeeeeere’s… Lando? Oh…

I can appreciate it's "insights", however something so simple doesn't need to be deemed as some sort of spiritual breakthrough book because some guy invented a fanciful story with life energy channels (I'd rather watch Donnie Darko), crystals and auras. With all of this said, of course I'm not going to like the Celestine Prophecy. Perhaps because it rings out "cult" and I immediately go into defense mode. It's the same thing when crazy evangelical christians ask if I've found jesus yet and spits out gibberish that is supposed to be the tongue of god. Anyone wanting to take a picture of my aura while playing a quartz crystal bowl tuned to my heart chakra and chanting a Native American blessing song will immediately make me want to violently attack them. I worked in a metaphysical crystal shop for 5 years and have had so much immersion into the New Age world that I drowned in it. WARNING: This review should not be read by the easily offended. Seriously, there’s wonder in the way the author created this world, i just can’t explain what it is. Sure this is a short story, only a little taste to what’s coming next for our dreamer and his creations but like, it has me already dying to have those books in my hands. Opal’s pov is so different form the ones we got in the series, i enjoyed reading it so much. Yes, i’m pretty sure this isn’t wishful thinking but a bridge to the next trilogy in the Raven’s universe. This little story, from Opal’s pov, brought me so many feelings because even though she *spoiler alert* was created on a Ronan’s dream and brought to our world by him, I feel is a connection to what could come later in the Ronan’s trilogy Maggie commented about a while ago. The world Maggie created for these books it’s not only fantastic because of the magic in it but also because of the uniqueness and the amazing characters she gave life to. I’ve missed these books since the series ended back in 2016, but up until this moment, I didn’t realize how much. Thus, Mack handles Riker's helplessness in the face of his wife's anguish with a brutal honesty that is almost visceral, and Picard's instability under the crushing presence of the collective becomes a frightening reminder that even the strongest are vulnerable. When those on whom we rely face devastating personal struggles that cut them off from their own sources of strength and resolve, all that seems left is a frantic scramble to clutch at any straw of hope. The Borg element of the story is a perfection of tense hopelessness as David Mack shows us there is little we can do to stop them, especially when those in whom we trust are compromised by self doubt and recriminations. Uncompromising and merciless, they are hell-bent on nothing short of the complete destruction of all but themselves. There's very little as likely to keep so many readers off-balance and uncomfortable as the Borg, and within the pages of 'Gods of Night' they are more ruthless and terrifying than ever. David Mack takes us on a journey of four paths - the commands of four captains - that ultimately begin to weave together into an unfolding tapestry of the desperate fight for survival which begins in this first book of the 'Destiny' trilogy, and will no doubt intensify in the following novels.
